Designs adaptive resource-allocation methods across the computing continuum.
Research profile.
Federica Filippini is a post-doctoral researcher at the Department of Informatics, Systems and Communication of the University of Milano-Bicocca. She received her M.Sc. degree in Mathematical Engineering and her Ph.D. degree cum laude in Information Technology from Politecnico di Milano.
Her research interests focus on optimization and resource management in Cloud, Edge, and distributed computing environments. Her work addresses resource selection, allocation, and scheduling problems for heterogeneous and dynamic computing infrastructures, including Function-as-a-Service (FaaS) and the Edge-Cloud Computing Continuum. She is also interested in performance modeling and workload management, as well as in the application of Machine Learning and Reinforcement Learning techniques to resource orchestration, workload distribution, and task offloading for Artificial Intelligence and Agentic AI applications. More recently, her research has explored imitation learning and reward design for Reinforcement Learning approaches applied to decentralized routing in satellite constellations, as well as to general constrained optimization problems. Her research aims at developing adaptive and efficient optimization and learning-based approaches for the dynamic management of resources and decision-making in complex distributed systems.
